POSITION PROFILE:
The Ground Segment Support Engineer will serve as the technical representative for Safran's modems and RF antennas used in Earth-to-satellite communications. This role requires proficiency in satellite ground segment electronics, mechanics, and software, which will be developed through formal training and self-learning. The incumbent will provide onsite integration and test (I&T) support for Safran's High Data Rate Receivers (HDRs) and Command, Ranging, and Telemetry (CRTs), ensuring seamless integration into customer networks and architectures. Responsibilities include hardware and software troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and supporting the shipping and receiving logistics for modem and antenna products at Safran's new Colorado office. This position is essential for ensuring reliable RF communications with satellites and delivering exceptional technical support to customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient in Ground Segment and Radio Modem technology of Safran HDR and CRT products.
- Lead delivery, set up, integration, and troubleshooting of HDR and CRTs at customer facilities.
- Develop and execute acceptance and checkout test plans both at the Safran factory and customer sites.
- Generate detailed documentation of acceptance and checkout test results as well as generation of Defect Reports (DRs).
- Work closely with the Safran Space Support and factory engineering teams to diagnose hardware and software defects and drive to resolution.
- Develop and implement test strategies and tools to automate software and system test execution.
- Perform detailed compatibility analysis/mapping of customer requirements to Safran products and identify gaps. Work with the Safran engineering teams to propose solutions.
- Perform detailed analysis of test results performed both at the factory and at customer sites and lead root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution activities.
- Deploy small (e.g. 2.4 meter) RF antennas and the back-end electronics for communication to/from commercial satellites.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- BS in and engineering discipline such as Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Science, or similar with 5+ years of experience or MS with 3+ years of experience
- Strong understanding of the Windows Operating System (including embedded) and ability to configure OS level parameters to be compatible with application specific software. Understanding of the Widows Registry.
- Ability to install and configure application specific software on a Windows OS. Ability to re-install and configure the Windows OS.
- Proficiency in a modern high-level programming language such as Python, C++, Java, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of networking and interconnections between hardware in an integrated environment. Ability to configure network infrastructure (such as switches and routers) to interface with Safran products on customer networks.
- Knowledge of basic RF communications to include transmission/reception, modulation/demodulation, and analog to digital conversion and signal processing.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills coupled with the ability to present complicated information in an organized fashion.
- Capable of growing into a geographically dispersed team interacting daily through web meetings, e-mail, and other electronic communications.
- Ability to execute extensive self-learning to master new complicated tasks.
- Must demonstrate maturity and be self-assured enough to be comfortable functioning in customer-facing engagements.
- Willingness to learn into other software applications to progress professionally within the company.
- Ability to work independently and on teams to support work assignments.
- Ability and willingness to travel independently within the United States and to foreign countries.
- Must be capable of pivoting quickly from one support engagement to another, as priorities may change.
- Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Must be a U.S Citizen.
IDEALLY, YOU’LL ALSO HAVE:
- Active DoD Security Clearance
- Fluency in the French language is a plus
Salary Range: $105,000 to $115,000 annually
