POSITION PROFILE:

Safran Defense & Space, Inc. Testing & Telemetry is seeking a motivated high school intern to support engineering, operations, and process improvement activities at the Norcross site. This internship is intended for a high-performing student interested in industrial engineering, supply chain, aerospace operations, process optimization, and technical problem solving.

 

The Engineering Intern will gain exposure to a high-quality aerospace and defense environment while supporting practical improvement initiatives, documentation efforts, data organization, and cross-functional engineering support activities. This role is well suited for a student who is organized, technically capable, eager to learn, and comfortable working with engineering, operations, and program teams.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives related to engineering, operations, support projects, or supply chain workflows.
  • Help organize, format, and maintain project tracking tools, schedules, action item lists, and status summaries.
  • Support data collection and analysis for engineering or operational metrics.
  • Assist with documentation cleanup, standard work instructions, templates, training material, or process guides.
  • Help develop simple Excel-based trackers, dashboards, or lightweight tools to improve visibility of work.
  • Support demand planning, resource planning, or inventory-related improvement activities where appropriate.
  • Participate in team meetings and capture notes, action items, risks, and follow-ups.
  • Assist with technical or administrative tasks related to lab, calibration, validation, or engineering support activities.
  • Apply basic programming or automation skills, where appropriate, to improve repetitive workflows.
  • Learn how engineering and operations teams function in an aerospace business.
  • Learn how process improvement supports quality, schedule, and customer commitments.
  • Learn how technical data, schedules, and project information are organized and communicated.
  • Learn how supply chain, engineering, and program execution connect in a real business environment.
  • Learn how to convert academic STEM skills into practical workplace deliverables.
  • Present a short summary of internship accomplishments and lessons learned at the end of the assignment.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Current high school student, preferably rising senior or graduating senior.
  • Interest in industrial engineering, supply chain, aerospace, operations, process improvement, or engineering management.
  • Strong academic performance in STEM coursework.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Comfortable learning new tools, processes, and business systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, volunteering, or team-based experience.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Programming experience in Python, Java, or similar languages is a plus.
  • Exposure to networking, cybersecurity, GUI design, or technical systems is a plus.
  • Must be a US Citizen or hold US Protected Individual status

 

IDEALLY, YOU’LL ALSO HAVE:

  • Exposure to industrial engineering or supply chain management.
  • Experience in process optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in data analysis or dashboard creation.
  • Experience in Python or Java programming.
  • Experience in technical operations support.
  • Experience in math, tutoring, teaching, or peer leadership.
  • Exposure to an Aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working in an ITAR environment.
