POSITION PROFILE:
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading and managing electrical engineering projects, overseeing design, development, and testing of electrical/electronic modules and sub-systems for defense and security applications. Their role will lead the design, optimization and analysis activities intended to ensure the electrical content of the project functions as expected and that cost and schedule goals are met. They will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment.
Their role will contribute across multiple phases of the product life-cycle, from early feasibility
studies through transition to production and will be involved in the hands-on evaluation of prototype components, developing and executing of test plans, collecting / evaluating test results, and clearly communicating findings to the project team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design lead responsibility from product concept to production support
- Detail schematic design including power conditioning, signal integrity analysis and high-speed video data transfer
- Contribute to or lead system architecture development
- Define information necessary for external and internal customer presentations
- Contribute to electrical product specification definition/verification
- Define/direct/lead product specification conformance and validation testing, data collection, system integration, and debugging
- Component placement and electrical layout for size/space claims of high-density PCBs
- Generation of engineering documentation including schematic drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and BOMS
- Assembly and test of prototype hardware
- Analyze system requirements, capacity, cost, and customer needs to determine feasibility of project and develop system plan
- Lead electrical design studies for total system optimization
- Lead efforts for programmatic commitments
- Tech lead on an electrical-centric programs
- Design/support calibration activities
- Function as subject matter expert in the area of electronics
- Proactively set work schedules & track performance
- Mentor less experienced engineers and interns
- Other tasks as assigned
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- BSEE or equivalent with 8+ years of electronic HW development experience in an avionics/aerospace, defense or medical product environment
- Exposure to analog and digital design with mixed signal interface and conversion circuit knowledge and the ability to specify components and/or sub-assemblies
- Previous exposure to Electro-Optics, Digital Video Processing and High-Speed Communication Systems
- Experience with power conversion for high efficiency, high reliability, battery-powered systems.
- Experience with high efficiency laser driver topologies covering CW and pulsed lasers
- Experience with PCB layout, packaging, and test of low-noise, mixed-mode circuitry
- Strong design debug and troubleshooting skills with solid hands-on lab experience using oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers and other test equipment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain security clearance is required
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organization and presentation skills
IDEALLY, YOU’LL ALSO HAVE:
- Familiarity with working in an ITAR environment
- Proficient at soldering common surface mount components
- Experience with high efficiency and high reliability power converters for battery-powered systems
- Experience with high efficiency laser driver topologies for CW and pulsed lasers
- Experience with Electro-Optics, Digital Video Processing, High Speed Communication Systems, Inertial Navigation and Position Sensing Systems, and/or EMI/EMC testing
- Familiarity with Altium PCB design software
- Familiarity with image sensor calibrations (thermal and/or visible)
- Experience in designing battery powered systems
- Experience with Digital video processing or High-Speed Communication Systems
- Experience with FPGA firmware development
- Experience in designing products for harsh military and commercial environments
- Experience with MIL-STD-810 standard
- Experience with MIL-STD-461 standard
