POSITION PROFILE:
The Quality Engineering Internship offers exposure to leading edge optical products and technology through direct participation in the development of hand-held camera systems (thermal, visible, infrared) and laser devices (range finders, aiming lasers, laser illumination). The intern will work closely with members of the Quality and Operations staff to inspect products, conduct tests, and assist on active projects. The work will include hands-on time in the environmental lab and production floor, with opportunities to use statistical process control techniques, conduct analysis, and use failure analysis tools to accomplish tasks. Given the variety of ongoing projects, interns are often able to work with the staff to guide their summer experiences towards areas of specific interest while gaining realistic exposure to a fast-paced engineering environment with ample opportunities to make an impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gain valuable hands-on experience and learn from our team of quality engineers by
- Supporting the production of established programs in daily operations
- Conducting final and in-process inspection and periodic testing of electro-mechanical assemblies
- Participating in Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System by engaging in the Nonconforming Material Process and Material Review Board (MRB)
- Engaging in continuous improvement efforts using the DAMIC process and other lean six sigma methods
- Working directly with all functional areas to ensure the highest level of quality on our products and processes
- Supporting other activities as required
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or Operations and entering Sophomore year or higher
- Career interest in product development and test
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Good problem solving skills and strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to set and accomplish goals
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels
- Understanding of Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Must be a US Citizen or hold US Protected Individual status
IDEALLY, YOU’LL ALSO HAVE:
- Experience working in a diverse multinational engineering organization
- Experience working in an ITAR environment
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma
- Experience with SPC tools
