POSITION PROFILE:

The Health, Safety and Enviromental Manager will be responsible for developing and enforcing safety policies and procedures, conducting safety training, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding workplace safety. This role serves as the primary contact for employees and managers concerning safety-related matters and oversees the application of all HSE programs for the Optronics business unit.  Additionally, the HSE Manager will coordinate HSE efforts across other business units within the Safran DSI, ensuring consistency and alignment in safety practices. The role requires close collaboration with Safran Electronics & Defense, and departments in all locations, including Facilities, Operations, and Engineering Teams.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and monitor health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and programs.
  • Interface with HSE professionals at the other business units to share best practices, align processes, monitor and assist with ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints and recommend corrective measures to prevent similar occurrences.
  • Conduct risk assessments, analyze data and recommend corrective action plans.
  • Monitor, inspect and assess hazardous materials, hazardous waste and pollution control equipment that includes reviewing and maintaining the facility chemical inventory and the safety data sheets.
  • Oversee emergency response plans and coordinate fire prevention activities.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs for employees as well as engage contractors to set clear HSE expectations.
  • Act as the primary interface with local, state and federal regulatory authorities regarding safety and environmental matters, including preparing and submitting reports.
  • Prepare and submit reports to management.
  • Assist in the development of safety budgets and administer safety-related budgets.
  • Maintain records and documents related to health, safety and environmental programs.
  • Coordinate general safety requirements such as the Safety Committee, Provision of Safety Glasses, Accident Investigations, Best Practices and Employee Involvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

        None

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Minimum of 7 years in a HSE or similar role
  • Working knowledge of existing OSHA and EPA state and local HSE regulations and industry standards and practices
  • Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action planning
  • Experience developing and implementing HSE policies, procedures, and programs across multiple sites or business units
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to conduct a “root cause” analysis
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, and conflict management skills
  • Comfortable in conversing at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to act appropriately in emergency situations
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident

IDEALLY, YOU’LL ALSO HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field from an accredited institution
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Experience working with Electro-Optical equipment
  • Experience working in an ITAR environment
