How many years of service? What branch?

I served five years in the United States Navy as a member of the Submarine Force, often referred to as the “Silent Service.”

What motivated you to serve in the military?

In addition to my desire to serve my country, I was inspired to join the Submarine Service by stories of my late grandfather’s experiences aboard his boat.

What skills did you learn that were transferrable to civilian employment?

During my time in the military, I honed mechanical skills as well as quality assurance and quality control expertise through various training courses, deployments, and shipyard maintenance periods. Ensuring certification of maintenance through proper quality requirements was crucial in keeping the ship watertight in a very cruel deep sea environment and deployable to ensure the mission was accomplished. This heightened level of attention-to-detail translates well into the civilian sector where now my primary focus is ensuring product quality is met.

Can you tell us about how you are able to continue to serve the Military (indirectly) in your current role?

There are many products that we produce for the US military and DoD customers, so I feel that my work is making an impact ensuring our troops are well equipped. It is especially fulfilling when I see something shipping to the Navy.

Can you describe the work you do at Safran DSI?

Throughout the facility I help to ensure parts and products meet our own requirements as well as the customers by means of various inspections. This helps to verify that our products work as designed without hiccups. Additionally, I oversee calibrations for various onsite tooling, investigate nonconformances, and help maintain site safety.

Do you feel supported and appreciated as a Veteran here at Safran DSI?

I do feel supported and appreciated as a veteran here at Safran DSI, many of my colleagues served in different capacities and branches. I am still hoping for a Space Force and Coast Guard veteran, so we have all branches covered!
